Ideas for Year 1 Home Learning – Term 1

Reading / Phonics / Spelling

o   Reading - share your reading books at home as much as possible.

o   Phonics – go to our Goosewell YouTube channel and locate the RWI films for your colour group. Watch them and join in with the learning.

o   Oxford Owl is a great website with e books and activities to complete online.

o   Ruth Miskin is another useful website with helpful ideas.

o   Spelling – our weekly spellings will still be set via Microsoft Teams for you to learn. You then need to use them independently and accurately in your writing.

Handwriting Ideas

o   Write out sections from your favourite book, a poem or song in neat, cursive handwriting.


Writing Ideas linked to our ‘London’ topic

o   Find out about London from books or websites and write a list of facts.

o   Create a fact file all about London.

o   Have a go at writing a poem about London.



o   Times Table Rockstars.

o   MyMaths – more details of this to follow, including log in details.

o   Write all of the numbers 0-10/20/50/100. Make sure they are all formed correctly.

o   Count from 0 to 10/20/50/100 and then from those numbers back to 0.

o   Count sets of objects being careful not to miss any.

o   Write down the number bonds to 10 and 20. Look for patterns.

o   Sumdog.


Topic – in addition to the Home Learning Ideas for the London topic

o   Build a model of something, which links, to our London topic – this may be out of Lego or recycled materials. 

o   Sketch, draw or paint something that links to London – you may need to use Google images.
