King of the Cloud Forests by Michael Morpurgo - A class review by 4G

Ashley has to leave his father in China because of a Japanese invasion.  He travels with Uncle Sung across the mountains but when he is left on his own, he encounters yetis which he describes as red-haired giants.  They take him to their cave and he soon adapts to life there amongst friends who worship and adore him, but he soon becomes homesick and misses the people he has left behind.  Who is 'Leelee?',  where did the coronation tin come from and will he ever see Uncle Sung again?  This adventure story has a lot of mystery and an exciting world in the mountain tops.

We would give it 9/10 because we loved the mythical creatures and adventure but we had to look up some of the tricky words!  We recommend it to Year 4 and above who are confident readers and not easily scared!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - J K Rowling - reviewed by Isaac

This is the first book in the Harry Potter series.  Harry learns that he is going to be a wizard and he has to go Gringott's Bank to buy all the things that he needs.  My favourite part was Halloween because when they woke up they smelt the smell of delicious pumpkin pie and my favourite character is Ron Wealsey because he has a smart pet rat called Scabbers who bit Malfoy who is a bully!  I loved this book because of the amazing descriptive language and the fantasy adventure.  Did you know that Quidditch is actually a real sport now and very fun to play?   I would rate this book 10/10 and I am very excited to read the next one in the series: The Chamber of Secrets!

Explorers on Witch Mountain - Alex Bell - reviewed by  Come

This the second book in the 'Le Club de l'Ours Polaire' series.  A boy called Ethan owned 10 magic bubbles.  1 could clean a camel so he popped 10 on his own head and transformed himself into a piece of soap.  Everyone touches him to wash themselves and he is worried that he wouldn't be able to go back to his original body.  My favourite character is Ethan because he is always really fun and does weird things!  There are 3 books in this series, in English and in French.  I read this one in French but am excited to read the next one in English!  I would rate this book 10/10 because it made me laugh!

Gangsta Granny Strikes Again!: The amazing new sequel to GANGSTA GRANNY, 2021’s latest children’s book by million-copy bes...

 Matilda: Roald Dahl

Matilda by Roald Dahl reviewed by Daniel

The book is about a young girl called Matilda who goes to a school that Ms Trunchbull owns. Matilda can do large sums in her head and can do magic. Read it to find out what happens.

I would recommend the book to everyone because it is funny, and you can watch the movie.

Demon Dentist by David Walliams reviewed by Emily

The book is about a boy called Alfie who hasn’t brushed his teeth or gone to the dentist for 5 years! There is a new dentist called Miss Root, who is secretly a witch who wants every child’s teeth in the World to make a new lair.

I recommend this book to Year 3’s and older because this book is quite scary so I recommend it to older children.

A Darkness of Dragons by S.A. Patrick reviewed by Lilly

A boy in disgrace, named Patch Brightwater, was thrown in prison for piping an illegal song and dance. Patch then discovers the deadly truth, the most feared Piper in history - the Hamelyn Piper. On his quest, he meets a girl cursed to be a rat by an evil sorcerer. Patch befriends the girl and promises to change her back. But infinite problems come to their feet.

I would recommend this book to people who love adventure and fantasy because of the dragons and evil pipers on the loose (aged 9 -12).

 The Hobbit

The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien reviewed by Isabelle

The Hobbit is about a hobbit called Bilbo, who went on a journey with dwarves to kill Smaug the dragon because they firstly would like some gold. And secondly, the dwarves would like the Arkenstone. Lastly, they want the gold back that the Smaug took from the dwarves. But I’m sorry, something sad happens at the end…

I would recommend this book to Mr Gentile or Mr Leader because it is a book filled with exciting parts like the bit when all the spiders kidnap the dwarves and they go to mysterious places, and I especially like Bilbo - I love it!

 Giraffes Can't Dance

Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andre reviewed by Chloe G

The book is about a giraffe who is picked on by the other animals because they don’t know he can dance. Gerald (the giraffe) believes them and he feels useless! Luckily, he bumps into a cricket who shows him his tune!

I recommend this book for babies up to Year 4 because it was the first book read to me! I still enjoy it now!

Secret FC reviewed by Jude in 4G

This book is all about children who love football but their headteacher hates it because he says it is dangerous. My favourite character is Khal because I like the position he plays in. I would recommend this book for ages 6+. My favourite part is when they play football at the end, but I can't tell you who wins!

Mint Choc Chip at the Market Café reviewed by Emily in 4G

This book is about a girl whose granny looks after her and takes her to football because her parents own a pet store. She meets a boy who also has a stall. I like it because the illustrations are good and you don't know what is going to happen next. I think it is suitable for children aged 7 and up.

Tom Gates Excellent Excuses reviewed by Lexi in 4G

I like all the Tom Gates books but this is my favourite. In this book, Tom and Derek form a band called Dogzombies. It is funny because they are always getting confused and my favourite part was when Tom copied a tree book for his report. I recommend the whole series for children aged around 9 years.
